VW Group Sales Up 2.9% During the First 10 Months of 2008

In spite of the global slowdown, the Volkswagen Group managed to deliver a total of 5.29 million vehicles to customers worldwide during the first ten months of 2008, up 2.8% from the same period a year earlier. In the month of October, the Group sold 502,600 vehicles worldwide, down 5.1% from October 2007 - but according to VW, better than the overall market which fell 16%. VW's Passenger Cars, the Group's highest-volume brand, sold a total of 3.1 million vehicles to customers worldwide (+2.1%) between January and October 2008, of which 439,600 (+3.2%) were delivered in Germany.

The VW Group reported that is sold 3.0 million vehicles (-0.4%) in Europe during the first ten months of this year, of which 881,500 (+1.8%) were delivered in Germany and 1.65 million (-5.6%) in Western Europe (excluding Germany).

From January to October, the German Group saw its Brazilian sales increase by 16.7% to 550,700 vehicles, in China by +12.6% to 853,800, in Russia by +64.4% to 107,900 and in India by +66% to 16,700 vehicles.

The Group once again reported pleasing growth in Brazil, with deliveries totaling 550,700 vehicles (+16.7 percent). In China, too,. The Group's percentage growth in Russia, where deliveries rose by 64.4 percent to 107,900 vehicles, was even higher. In India, the Group delivered (+66.0 percent) from January to October, again representing strong growth.
