BMW Announces Prices on 2011 5-Series, Up to $1,650 Lower than Previous Generation Model

Today, BMW released U.S. pricing for its all-new 2011 5-Series saloon that will be offered in two flavors in the States, the 535i powered by a 300HP single turbo straight-six and the 550i with a new twin-turbocharged V8 producing 400 ponies. Both feature BMW's new 8-speed automatic transmission as standard, while a six-speed manual gearbox is available as an option.

Surprisingly, BMW dropped prices for both variants of the new 5-Series over the equivalent versions of the previous generation model.

Including $875 Destination & Handling, the 2011 535i starts at $50,475 or $1,650 less than last year's 300HP 535i ($52,125), while the 2011 550i starts at $60,575, meaning its $900 cheaper than 2010 550i ($61,475) that was powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.8-liter V8 with 360HP.
