Leaving the femme fatales aside, Volkswagen's hardtop convertible enters the 2012 model year with a mid-life facelift that brings it more in line with the company's latest products and includes a more Golf-like fascia with new headlamps and a far less prominent front grille. The reshaped front and rear bumpers, plus new two-part LED rear lights and mirror designs round off the exterior makeover.
For the interior, VW made some subtle upgrades in the form of new trim on the instrument panel and doors, and different controls on the air conditioning system.
Available with all engine variants from the 140HP 2.0 TDI to the 210HP 2.0 TSI, the Exclusive trim adds a raft of features such as sports seats in two-tone Nappa leather upholstery and decorative elements in aluminum.
The exterior restyling brings the Eos in line with VW's latest models such as the new Touareg, Passat B7 and Jetta. At the front, there's a new, and less prominent, upper grille which is now completely separated from the lower. Also new are the headlamps that incorporate horse-shoe shaped LED running lights, the bumper design and the more chiseled side mirrors.
In a statement to the press, the German automaker said it plans to introduce four all-new or refreshed models in 2011 including the NMS mid-size sedan, Beetle, Tiguan and Eos.
More specifically, the Eos Exclusive's interior is covered in black nappa leather contrasted with either cinnamon or corn silk beige in the centre sections and side panels. Black "piano lacquer" trim inlays with coloured seams and piping round off the changes inside.
We first told you about VW's decision to replace the 200HP 2.0 TSI engine with the Golf GTI's newer and more powerful 210HP 2.0 TSI on the Scirocco earlier this month when the company's UK arm announce the availability of the GT model in the market. Now, VW has made known that aside from the Scirocco, the Eos will also benefit from this change with both models being available across Europe.The new powerplant from the latest-generation Golf GTI produces an extra 10-horsepower for a total output of 210HP while torque remains the same as the 200HP unit at 280Nm (207 lb-ft). Once again, the four-cylinder engine is fitted with a six-speed manual as standard and optionally, with VW's DSG dual clutch transmission.
Volkswagen claims that with this engine, the Scirocco's 0-100 km/h (62mph) sprint time has been cut by a significant 0.3 seconds over the outgoing 200HP model, at 6.9 seconds. The Eos 210HP 2.0 TSI hits the 100km/h mark from standstill in 7.8 seconds.
The latest 2.0 TSI is not only more powerful but also more fuel efficient than its predecessor as the German automaker says that the Scirocco 210HP returns a combined fuel economy of 7.4 lt/100km (31.8mpg US) representing a 5 per cent improvement over the previous model. Even better, the Eos 2.0 TSI 210HP consumes on average 7.2lt /100km (32.7 mpg US), which translates into a 9 per cent reduction in fuel consumption.
The 2010MY Scirocco and Eos 2.0 TSI 210HP are on sale now in Europe with prices in Germany starting from €26,050 and €31,975 respectively.
Volkswagen Group of America has issued two separate recall for numerous Audi and VW models equipped with its DSG dual-clutch transmission. The first recall involves 16,000 2009-2010MY cars manufactured between September 2008 and August 2009. The models affected are Audi's A3, TT Coupe and Roadster, plus VW's Eos and Jetta Sedan and SportWagen. In this case, a faulty temperature sensor could cause the DSG transmission to shift into neutral while the vehicle is being driven.
The company said that it will contact owners of the affected models so they can take the cars to local dealers for any necessary repairs free of charge.
The second recall affects approximately 43,000 Volkswagens and 10,300 Audis of the 2007-2009 model years including the VW R32, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, Eos, as well as the Audi A3 and TT.
According to the German automaker, some customers reported transmission performance issues under certain driving conditions. Volkswagen claims that the problem was caused by a faulty component inside the Mechatronic unit. The company will repair or replace the components in the transmissions of the affected models free of charge.
Furthermore, VW said that it will extend its New Vehicle Limited Warranty to cover the DSG transmissions affected by the customer service program and the voluntary safety recall. According to the company, the extended warranty is for 10-years/100,000-miles and can be transferred to subsequent owners of the cars.
"Safety, customer satisfaction, quality and long-term reliability are top priorities at Volkswagen and Audi. We have been studying the symptoms customers have reported, and are working closely with the NHTSA," said Stefan Jacoby, president and CEO, VWGoA. "We listened to our customers' concerns, and are taking action to address them. We are focused on taking all the appropriate actions to ensure the complete satisfaction of our existing customers."
Just when you though Volkswagen had run out of ideas for special edition models, the German firm goes and creates another one. If you live in Europe, say hello to the new Eos GT Sport model that is distinguished on the outside by its mainly due to the black colored retractable hardtop with tinted rear windows and 18-inch alloy wheels. The special edition version also adds chrome grille slats, darkened headlights and 'cherry-red' tail lamps along with a lower stance thanks to the standard sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 15mm.
The new special edition Eos also features numerous upgrades in the interior including aluminum sport pedals, heated front seats in leather / Alcantara and a new three-spoke leather steering wheel with gray decorative stitching. Furthermore, the coupe-convertible's standard equipment has been enhanced with the addition of a 'Climatronic' air conditioning, an upgraded audio system with a six-pack CD changer and a parking sensor.
The Eos GT Sport package is available with all powertrain options that range in Europe from the 122HP 1.4-liter TSI to the 260HP 3.2-liter V6.
Maybe it's a thing of the spring, but European automakers are revealing one special edition model after the other lately. This times it's Volkswagen that has announced a new special version of the Eos coupe-convertible called "Edition 2010". Initially available only for the German market, this model's specialness comes from the extra convenient features and the design package "Chrome & Style" that adds a chromed grille, LED tailights in 'cherry red' and a two-tone leather interior trim that covers the seats, door panels and the steering wheel.In terms of equipment upgrades, the Eos Edition 2010 gains heated front seats, a "Climatronic" air condition system and an enhanced radio-navigation system with touch-screen.
The Eos "Edition 2010" is available with four gasoline engines ranging from 122 to 260HP and a 2.0-liter diesel with 140HP. Prices in Germany start from €30,550.
Power-happy German tuning firm B&B has released a new extreme package for the VW Eos 3.2 V6. B&B offers buyers four power upgrades, all concerning a turbocharged version of the coupe-convertible's 3.2-liter V6 engine that produces 250HP in its naturally aspirated, factory form. After B&B's extensive mods, the 3.20-liter V6 can produce 360, 400, 450 and even 500HP. The most powerful option allows the Eos to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 308 km/h (192 mph).
As expected, B&B's tuning package also includes brake upgrades (six or eight piston calipers) as well as a sport suspension with adjustable coilovers, 18 or 19-inch alloys and an aerokit.
Prices for the engine upgrades range from €12,950 for the 360HP version and €27,950 for the extreme 500HP variant - and of course this does not include the cost of the VW Eos 3.2 V6.
We all know how much optional equipment can cost when it comes to German cars. However, once in a while German automakers launch special edition versions that come with additional equipment at no extra cost.
